Below are some sample shop details for the elliptical stair and handrail. This is not your average spiral stair or helix. The entire stair wraps around an ellipse. Each of the three stair assemblies worked to different points to balance the treads, (treads were not simple "pie slices"). The stair itself is a "box" construction. The treads cantilever over two plate stringers and a continuous bottom plate runs up along the stair slope following the elliptical curve.
